The location of Cuba's seat of government and the hub of the country's politics and economy, the Plaza is the site of several government offices, including Fidel Castro's presidential offices the Central Committee of the Communist Party building. Fidel Castro gives his annual speech in this plaza on 1 January, when up to 2 million people gather to hear him. The Jose Marti monument has some of the best views of the city and is open between 10.00-5.00 Monday - Saturday.
