035/Abbey Bath England
The Abbey this is the third building on this site. The first was a monastery church where in Saxon times, Edgar the first king of all England was crowned in 973 A.D. This ceremony remains relatively unaltered to the present day. Later the normans built a huge unfinished cathedral (the present Abbey occupying only the nave). Finally in 1499, Bishop Oliver King had a dream, which inspired him to build a new abbey church. The dream is represented on the west face of the Abbey by a ladder coming down from heaven to earth with angels ascending and descending.
