026/Pulteney Bridge Bath England
Look over the river Avon to the famous Pulteney Bridge built by Robert Adam (1769 - 1774), who was inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. It replaced the eastern part of the city, in particular the estate of the wealthy Sir William Pulteney. The modern weir below was built in 1971 to relieve flooding. Former Poet Laureate, John Betjeman, thought it beautiful; its curves and tiers complementing the Georgian architecture. Note the toll booths on both sides of the bridge.
