At No. 19 Bennett Street home of Admiral Philip (4th house along, Who took the first convicts to Australia and became the first Governor of New South Wales. John Wood the Younger designed the New Rooms to replace the original rooms on Grand Parade, which had become too small for Bath's rapidly increasing population: from 3,000 in the early 1700s to 30,000 by the late 1700s.
