Stall street walk straight ahead into and along the colonnaded Bath Street opposite. Built by Baldwin in 1791, its elegant colonnades provided cover for bathers moving between King's Bath and Cross Bath (in use for over 800 years) at the top of the street. It is supposedly named after a cross erected here to commemorate the previously infertile Queen Mary, wife of James II who conceived after bathing here. It was visits by royalty in the 17th century, that paved the way for Bath's future popularity.
