The Romans left behind them in Bath, a Palace of Health and Luxury unequalled except in Italy" - Major Charles Davis 1884. The Pump Room was built by Baldwin in 1790 - 1795 to replace the original built in 1704 - 1706. During this Georgian period (18th century), Bath was transformed by three men. Beau Nash, Ralph Allen (entrepreneur) and John Wood (architect) into the most fashionable and elegant resort in Britain.
